A midnight Friday-night-of-a-3-night-party set. Funky, at times edgy/dark, energetic house.

Story

OODE is a 3 night party in central Oregon, held in a giant clearing in a stand of massive old-growth fir trees in the North Umpqua river valley. It’s a spectacular setting, and an insane group of people who’ve been doing it 11 years now. I was at the first one, and have made several since. Of course there are 800 DJs who want to play, so they make DJs alternate years, and even then there’s no guarantee you’ll get to play. This year my buddy Sean van den Heuvel and I put our name in the hat as a duo, which increases your odds and your playing time. We traded “threes” - took turns playing three tracks. This can be a great format in your basement, but live it can be more challenging, often turning into a tug-of-war. Sean and I took pains to avoid that, and despite a few slips here and there, we felt good about the outcome. We served our 1st-night-of-3 purpose well, and can only hope to rock the 2nd-night-of-3 the next time the opportunity presents itself, so we can truly bring the heat.
